BRYAN'S BLOG

R for CanceR

I was talking to one of my blog readers recently about what happens in board rooms. It was sparked by my recent blog about getting the most out of the experience of the board members, despite board politics. I asked him about his experience with risk reporting and he gave me a new phrase to use.

He said the “risk report” is always delivered quite separately to all the “business reports” and is almost always boring. While it’s being delivered directors start reaching for their phones to check emails (or maybe social media!). And then he gave me the phrase.

“It’s like a silent cancer. Eating away at valuable time.”

While this story is on the one hand depressing, on the other it is an immense opportunity. Stop the cancer in your organisation by reframing risk for you board and you are on a winner for life!
