No Creativity = No Risk = No Magic

There is the need for Trust, there is the need for Purpose, however, there is no magic without Creativity. The more creative, the more risky – like the the Sydney Opera House, Disneyland, Apple’s iPhone, SpaceX’s Falcon 1 reusable rocket. Wouldn’t you have liked to be a big part of one of those achievements? Maybe not at first, as some experienced considerable ‘teething’ problems, but certainly by the end they became success stories.

There are many organisations that focus on inspiring this kind of think big, reach-for-the-stars creativity (literally in Musk’s case). Many however don’t, which is a shame as we could accomplish so much more.

Publicly listed companies are often hampered by short-term performance expectations unless they have a track record of good surprises. Government decision makers are usually the same, as they are only looking to the next election.

It almost makes me cry sometimes when I work with very talented people who could pull off something great, if only someone let them have a go.

If you really want to make change, you need to take risk. One way is to let your team show their creativity.
