The Biggest Risk Isn’t Uncertainty Due to AI. It’s Misdiagnosing It.

You’re not alone if you and your executive team are experiencing higher levels of, let’s say, anxiety.

It might be a bit strong a word for some, while for others it’s spot on.

A typical sign that everyone isn’t on the same page – or the right track – when it comes to the best response to uncertainty is when your team has multiple views of the road ahead. One person believes better execution is needed, another thinks adjusting the strategy will better address the changes being seen, while another believes AI has changed the game and the current strategy and business model no longer make sense.

So how do you avoid this happening? For starters, your team needs to do the work needed to properly diagnose the current level of uncertainty – a task I go into in more detail in my blog ‘Uncertainty is a Tough Opportunity’.

Here is a question you and your team need to ask and answer now: Are we facing normal levels of uncertainty, abnormal levels of uncertainty, or a WTF moment in the lifecycle of our organisation?

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be exploring three very different forms of strategic uncertainty and why AI is making the distinction between them increasingly important.

For now, I ask you: Would everyone around your executive table diagnose your current strategic uncertainty the same way?

And, as always, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
